M
eet Christiaan "Dutch" Mostert...internationally recognized watercolor artist and member of the prestigious American Society of Marine Artists.

Painting with transparent water color his work reflects, with striking realism, the everyday scenes of life around the waterways of the Northwest United States.

Born in Holland, the son of an artist father, the young painter's early visual impressions were influenced by ships and barges working the canals and waterways in his European hometown.

One of his first works pictured here, is a pen and ink executed in a "Modern Primitive Style". The work was fondly collected, preserved and presented to Dutch many years later by his mother, early evidence of the direction his life had taken.

Traveling through Europe, Africa, the Middle East and the Pacific contributed to the diversity of his interests but maritime art remained at the center of his successful career as a professional artist.

Dutch resides in the Coos Bay, Oregon area and works from both studio and location to create his extraordinary watercolors. Typically his paintings demand many hours of time at the easel as well as hours of research. Working boats of the Northwest Coast, especially older tugs and fishing vessels, are his preferred subjects and Dutch is especially gifted in his ability to capture the character hidden in their fine details. Admirers of his paintings often comment that they find themselves irresistibly drawn into his work.
